Each year, HospitalCareers releases its Annual 100 Best Hospitals To Work For. This comprehensive guide identifies the top hospitals in the United States based on expertise, benefits and work environment provided to the employees. Since we factored everything from flexible schedule to retirement benefits, we made your job search even easier.


For our list, hospitals were ranked based on several factors including: employee satisfaction, hospital expertise and certifications, and safety evaluations.The evaluations and ratings were pulled from Glassdoor, Indeed, U.S. News,QualityCheck, and LeapFrog.

Additionally, benefits provided to the employees influenced the overall rank. They include professional growth opportunities, general benefits, flexible work schedules, insurance and retirement benefits. The letter scores are based on information provide publicly by the hospitals.

Each hospital was rated on a combination of benefits provided, accreditations, professional growth opportunities, employee reviews, and work environment, and more. The following scoring guide will help explain what criteria was used to evaluate and rank hospitals:

Satisfaction

Independent employee Glassdoorand Indeed ratings were used to evaluate employee satisfaction based on their hospital role, and employee benefits offered. The number of starsthat were given to hospitals in this ranking were given based on the Glassdoor ratings in conjunction with the employee's satisfaction level of the benefits provided.

Advancement

Advancement was evaluated for each hospital based on the commitment from the employer to assist the hospital and healthcare professional with growth throughout their time working in the hospital and throughout their career. This metric was evaluated based on additional training courses provided to each employee, continuing education credit requirements, education and tuition support, networking opportunities, diversity training, and more. Hospitals were rated on an A to F scale based on the number of professional growth opportunities they provided to employees.

Expertise

USNews Specialty Rankings are evaluated each year to highlight healthcare organizations and hospitals that excel in various medical specialties. The USNews Rankings performance from each hospital was tallied to evaluate the excellence they have achieved in the healthcare industry. The hospitals were given starsbased on the number of nationally ranked medical specialties their hospital ranked for.

*FOUR STARS- 15 to 19 Ranked Specialties

*THREE STARS- 10 to 14 Ranked Specialties

*TWO STARS- 5 to 9 Ranked Specialties

*ONE STAR- Less than 5 Ranked Specialties

Certification

QualityCheck was used to evaluate and highlight hospitals and healthcare organizations that were awarded Certifications, Advanced Certifications, and Accreditations based on the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission. The total number of Certifications and Accreditations were added to come up with a Total Quality Check score. Starswere then given out based on the total Quality Check score.

Safety

Each hospital ranking was based on whether or not they chose to respond to safety evaluations. For those hospitals that did not respond, DNR was mentioned. Hospitals were ranked on safety progress by LeapFrog.

Benefits

Hospitals were ranked based on the benefits they provided to their hospital and healthcare organization employees. The benefits that were evaluated include: Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability, Paid Time Off, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Coverage, and Flexible Spend Accounts, Performance Bonuses, Maternity and Paternity Leave, Childcare, Family Medical Leave, Fertility Assistance, Holiday Leave, Extended Leave Options, Bereavement Leave, Legal Assistance, Employee Car, Gym Memberships, Free Food and Dining Credits, Employee Discounts, and Work Equipment. Hospitals were then ranked based upon what benefits they offered and how comprehensive they were on an A to F scale.

Flexibility

Hospitals were ranked based on whether or not they provided flexible schedule and remote based opportunities to their employees. This is becoming a much larger consideration for all employees since the Pandemic and some refer to this as the biggest growth area.

Insurance

Hospitals were ranked based on the medical insurance and life insurance they provided in addition to other benefits that would improve an employee's overall well-being and lifestyle. Some of the metrics that contributed to the Insurance hospital rankings included: medical insurance, life insurance, accident assistance, mental care, dental insurance, and on-care site options. Hospitals were ranked on an A to F scale based on the number of options they provided to their employees.

Retirement

Hospitals were evaluated and ranked based on the number of retirement benefits they provided to their employees and ranked on an A to F scale. Some of the metrics that contributed to the Retirement benefits hospital rankings included: Retirement Plan Options, 401k Options, Stock Options, Worker's Compensation, Pension Plans, and Investment Guidance.
