The popular sci-fi series The Umbrella Academy is returning to Netflix for a second series, which will once again see the Hargreeves siblings try and avert the apocalypse.
The first series was watched by 45 million households, and this dysfunctional family willneed to utilise all of their different abilities and strengths if they’re to succeed.
Each member was born on the same fateful day in 1989 – to women who had previously shown no signs of being pregnant whatsoever – before they ultimately started manifesting superhuman gifts.
Here’s everything you need to know about their varying superpowers.
What are the Umbrella Academy superpowers?
Number One (Luther) – super strength
Luther has superhuman strength, which made him a vital member of The Umbrella Academy.
He led the team, and persisted longer than anyone else…until he was seriously injured on a mission.
His adoptive father had to intervene to save his life; once injected with a serum, the top half of his body transfigures into an ape, giving him a muscular and hairy appearance.
Number Two (Diego) – perfect aim
Diego is skilled at curving the trajectory of any object he throws, so they hit a target with unfailing accuracy.
Primarily, he throws knives while fighting criminalsas his vigilante alter-ego, which has put him on the radar of police in the past.
Outside of the Netflix series, the comic books depict Diego as being able to breath indefinitely.
Number Three (Allison) – mind control
Allison can control people by saying the phrase “I heard a rumour…” followed by whatever she wants them to do.
It’s a surefire way to wield great influence, but became dubious when her husband found out she was using mind control to make their child behave.
Given the injuries she has, it’s uncertain if her superpower will continue in season two.
Number Four (Klaus) – can speak to the dead
Klaus’ superpower is to communicate with the dead, and he’s typically accompanied by the ghost of Number Six.
Nevertheless, he himself has been haunted by his own otherworldly powers, and resorted to drug and alcohol abuse which has curbed his effectiveness in recent years.
Number Five – space and time travel
Number Five is gifted with the power of teleporting through space and time.
This skill can be utilised to travel minor distances, such as across a room, or considerably longer ones, perhaps even decades into the future.
But his control of this magic power is inconsistent, and he found himself trapped on a post-apocalyptic Earth in the first season.
By travelling through time, he’s outpaced his adoptive siblings in age, but remains trapped in a 13-year-old body.
Number Six (Ben) – can summon tentacled monsters

With a slightly more obscure super skill, Ben has the power to summon horrifying tentacled monsters from his body, and can get rid of the team’s foes in brutal fashion.
However, tragically he died under mysterious circ*mstances, so his only way to communicate now is through Klaus, who has been able to bring Ben into the land of the living momentarily.
Number Seven (Vanya) – converts sound into destructive force
Vanya unexpectedly is the most powerful member of the Umbrella Academy as she can convert sound into solid destructive force, and is capable of killing people and destructing whole buildings, with just her violin.
She turned against her siblings after discovering she had been lied to for years, but she may yet redeem herself.
