Celebrities in The Sims 4 operate on a strict hierarchy based on their fame level. Lower-level famous Sims can even be fans of upper-level ones. In the above screenshot, despite Vanessa Jeong being a 1-star celebrity, she tagged as a "Fan" because the player-character, Clowny Ma'Goo, is a 3-star celebrity.

If a celebrity is more than a couple levels above the player-character, interactions are limited. Below, we see Clowny trying to interact with a celebrity named Kayla Flemming. At the time of the screenshot, Clowny is still a zero-star celebrity just getting started, so when he meets her at the gym, he can only gush at her.

Sims who attempt to interact with celebrities above their own rating are strictly limited. They are not allowed to do any aggressive actions and cannot gain relationships, nor can they get the celebrity's number to call them. Even with free will turned off, your controlled Sim may even automatically go over to them to take selfies without your command.

Once your Sim reaches or surpasses a celebrity's level, interactions can happen as normal as seen with Vanessa Jeong earlier. Your Sim can even enter romantic relationships or request a celebrity to move in with them. Of course, the celebrity may decline your Sim's advances anyway if there is not a social foundation for them to be friends!

In general, this inequality of interaction doesn't work both ways. As the player-character, you can command your Sim to do anything you want even for the normal Sims of the world. You do get some special interactions, such as being able to sign autographs for fans, that can be executed before your Sim formally introduces themselves to the target. In that way, you can interact with your fans without adding another entry into your relationships panel.

Once you command your Sim to formally introduce themselves to the target, all normal social interactions become available. Your Sim can still sign autographs if you wish, but your Sim can also use high-level interactions including high-level romantic interactions or social events. However, your Sim's public reputation may still come into play.

Reputation

As your Sim become more famous, their reputation will become an unstoppable force that will dictate how other Sims behave. This can include other celebrities and even long-time friends: a Sim with a bad reputation may take social or relationship hits even without doing a negative social interaction.

At its basic level, a Sim with a good reputation will find that they gain relationship scores easier. The effect is not necessarily as strong as other methods in the game, such as having a high Charisma level. However, like all effects in The Sims 4, it will stack and the early boost of relationship points can help a reputable Sim gain a relationship very quickly and gain new friends and fans without much effort or time.

Positive reputation is not the only option and having a negative reputation can open special interactions. Also, negative-reputation Sims will gain relationships faster with each other, which may be useful if you're controlling a Sim with the Evil or Mean Traits, especially if you're shooting for one of the Deviance Aspirations.

Reputation is gained or lost by public actions. Generally speaking, whatever happens in a Sim's home remains secret and won't impact them. However, the way the Sim conducts themselves out in public will directly affect reputation. Friendly- and Funny-type social interactions will increase reputation while Mean- and Mischief-type interactions will decrease it.

Interactions with those tagged as Fans seem to have greater reputation effects for better or worse, so organizing the social event called a Meet & Greet can help reputation quickly. This can be activated in a Sim's cellphone. A Sim can choose themselves as the celebrity, and just about everyone invited will be tagged as a fan.

Note that if you run a Meet & Greet in a public space, other Sims not involved in the event may arrive. They can be interacted with as normal but interactions with them will not count toward the event's score, nor will it help with the Sim's reputation. Therefore, while holding an event, be sure to interact only with Sims flagged as "Fan." You can see if they are simply by hovering your cursor over them and seeing if the word "Fan" is in red over their name.

A Sim's Reputation can affect which Celebrity Perks are available to them. If Reputation changed, some perks may be lost, but the Celebrity Points will be refunded and can be moved to the other side of the Perk Chart.
