You might think that YouTube is over saturated with creators.
That is not the case.
Yes, there are more YouTube creators than ever before.
But there are also more viewers than ever before.

YouTube has been growing steadily over the last few years.
It is one of the most visited websites on the internet worldwide.
YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, owned by the largest search engine in the world (Google), which in their turn is one of the biggest tech companies in the world.

In America computers with a stable broadband connection are common.
But a lot of countries in the world are just catching up with their internet devices and internet connection and are only now able to stream videos.

Is it a good idea to start a YouTube channel in 2020?

The big channels were also the first to bump into the early adopter hurdles.
YouTube has ironed the kinks out over the years.
Your YouTube creator experience and the experience of the viewers is more smoother than ever before.

Quality of content is more important than ever before.
Things like click bait and spam are not an issue anymore.

More important than everything else, you can earn money with YouTube.
Since 2007 you can earn money with YouTube ads.
On top of that you are also able to sell your products and services via the platform.
There are more (financial) opportunities than ever before.

2024 is perfect to start

I think it’s better to start with YouTube then to read all the information there is to know.
Knowing too much can paralyze you, as well as knowing too little.
They say: “ignorance is bliss”.
I think that is also true for YouTube,

When you start with YouTube, you’ll automatically start wondering things.
Then you can search for information about that specific topic.

Even if you would read everything there is to know about YouTube, you still have to figure out your own preferred way of working.
The only way to find out …. is to start with YouTube.

You have an advantage

Also, you can spy and see what the big channels are doing.
The early adopters a couple of year back, had to figure stuff out.
Now we have blogs(!!) and YouTube channels that tell you exactly how to do it.

Showing your face on camera?

I’m thinking of LGR, Nostalgia Nerd, Daniel Ibbertson. Splash Wave/Strafefox, GameHut and hunderds of others I can’t even remember the name from.

But when you do show your face, you are able connect better with your audience.
People just like to see each other in the eye to gain trust.
This is especially important when you try to build a brand.

You can always start without showing your face in your first videos and in later videos you show it.
If you think you can’t talk into the camera, how do you expect to learn if you don’t?
Yes those first videos maybe bad.
But everyones first videos are bad.
Look at the biggest YouTube creators, their first videos suck.
You only learn by doing it.

Performance anxiety?

You will make mistakes if you start with YouTube.
Making mistakes is not a bad thing if you learn from it.
Making mistakes is the best way to learn.
