Sen. Laphonza Butler isn’t just keeping a seat warm in Washington
17-04-2024 16:00 via ocregister.com
When all is said and done, Sen. Laphonza Butler will only be in the U.S. Senate for about 13 months.
A former labor leader, Butler was sworn into the Senate in October 2023, replacing Sen. Dianne Feinstein after her death. And instead of joining what was then a crowded field of candidates vying for the spot this election cycle, Butler opted not to run for a full term.
That makes Butler somewhat of a lame duck, an elected official in a seat while a successor has either already been chosen or will

Over the span of a single year, heroin deaths dropped almost 34% nationwide, while deaths from natural and semi-synthetic drugs (morphine, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone) dropped nearly 13%

If Newsom truly follows the science, why not adopt the ‘science of reading’ in California schools?
17-04-2024 15:01 via ocregister.com
When COVID-19 struck California four years ago and people started dying, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared an emergency and assumed unilateral authority over Californians’ economic and social lives.
Over the ensuing months, he repeatedly issued commands to close down businesses, schools and gatherings, only to lift restrictions when they were no longer warranted.
Repeatedly, Newsom declared that his decisions were driven by science, but his underlying criteria were often opaque. The rollercoaster

Soon the government might shut down your car.
President Joe Biden’s new infrastructure law gives bureaucrats that power.
You probably didn’t hear about that because when media covered it, few mentioned the requirement that by 2026, every American car must “monitor” the driver, determine if he is impaired and, if so, “limit vehicle operation.”
Rep. Thomas Massie objected, complaining that the law makes government “judge, jury and executioner on such a fun
