Colibri Tattoo and Piercing is a tattoo shop with 4 branches all over Toronto. They are known for working under very hygienic conditions and every accessory used is sterilized and cleaned using the latest cleaning technologies.

They only let experienced and highly qualified tattooers work with them so that they are equipped to handle any kind of style, even unique motifs. We think that these high-standard conditions set this shop apart from its competitors.

Aside from their outstanding tattoo service, they also provide other body art-related services including piercing, permanent makeup, and micro-pigmentation. The rates are clearly stated on their website saving you the time to ask them directly.

What we really liked about their shop is their passion to spread their expertise to future tattooers. They have a teaching service that provides real-life experience at one of the busiest tattoo shops in Toronto.

The program covers the theory of tattoo basics, safety & regulation, line work & shading practice with fake skin, and real-life tattooing on models. The rates are affordable for the benefit they provide and the learning kit is also provided. Click here to check their curriculum.

We also love how they have weekly specials. On Tuesdays, their piercings only cost $25, 25% off any walk-in tattoos during Wednesdays, $50 for small flash tattoos on Thursdays, and during Thursdays, they offer $30 for tooth gems, though take note that is only exclusive to their Downtown location.

For more information regarding their promotions, click here.

Overall, we think that Colibri Tattoo and Piercing is a great tattoo shop, especially for people who are planning to put on a custom motif tattoo. On top of all that, they also offer discounts and special offers including their tattoo special which is available on Wednesdays.

Pros

  • Convenient branch locations

Here are some reviews from their clients:

“I got two tattoos by Olia about a week ago. It was the most amazing experience. She made me feel super comfortable the entire time. She wanted to make sure I loved the placement of the tattoos and made the whole experience enjoyable. I am definitely going back to Olia to get more tattoos as she is amazing at what she does. Thank you again Olia!”

“Fantastic experience, especially for my first tattoo. My artist, Arturo, was very nice, and he made sure that I was okay through the process. I am so happy with how my tattoo came out, it was exactly what I wanted and it couldn’t have come out more perfect. This studio is great, very clean, and friendly. It has a very chill and calm vibe, which I enjoy; it makes the experience even better and helps ease any nerves you may have. Staff is very knowledgeable and efficient. Definitely would go back, and I would recommend to anyone in the area.”

Had my first tattoo done at Chronic Ink yesterday-Selena is absolutely amazing! She was very caring, calming, and reassuring. I appreciate how patient she was with me! The entire staff at this location were all very nice as well. Will definitely go back for my next tattoo!- Jainee Marie

Clean and highly professional

Had my first session with Sarah for tattoo removal, I am extremely impressed. She walked me through the entire process, made me feel comfortable, and was highly professional the entire time. The story of Tattoo People dates back to its inception in Hongdae in Seoul, the artistic center of the capital city. Founded by Khan J, the shop opened its doors in Toronto in 2014.

Today, the shop is best known for masterpiece-worthy designs of various tattoos. This is the place you’ll go to if you want intricately-detailed Japanese tattoos or sophisticated finelines on your body.

Cares about what you want

Tattoo People is the best! I have had two tattoos done there now and I have loved working with them on both. They are extremely accommodating and care the most about you getting what you want. My artist, Jihan took way more time on my piece than initially proposed and was nothing but excited and happy for me. 10/10 will go back and also recommend!! – Mallory Mahoney

Beyond impressive service

Been to a number of tattoo shops in the city and I was beyond impressed with my consultation and first appointment at Tattoo People. Aside from Khan somehow psychically drawing my pet who passed away into my design, the professionalism, kindness, compassion, and friendliness of this studio can’t be understated. Amazing work, great people, spotless studio. I can’t wait to get this piece finished! – Nicole W.

One of the first things that stood out to us was the range of services they offer. Unlike cookie-cutter tattoo shops, this studio’s approach is a lot more distinct and definitely more innovative, in our opinion.

The studio performs custom tattoos for those who want a personalized design and tattoo cover-ups for those who want to remodel an old tattoo.

If you want to get a tattoo but are not willing to commit a lifetime to it yet, they also do airbrush tattoos. Speaking of commitments, if you want to break up with any of your current tattoos, they also have tattoo removal services.

Consultation with the shop is free plus you have the chance to speak to an artist of your choice.

On top of that, we also love that the shop is walk-in friendly. Not everyone has the luxury to schedule an appointment so it’s a definite plus in our books.

Makes your vision come true

Jillian has been an absolute pleasure to work with. When I contacted her, after being recommended highly by a friend, I asked if she would be able to do one of her bat flash but add some text and splashes of red to make it an MCR Tattoo. Not only was she okay with that, she was stoked and was happy to help make my vision come true. She’s been both professional and super pleasant, making me super excited for one of my first tattoos in 2years! Thanks Jillian for being awesome. – Haley Mawby

Kind and accommodating

Came to Golden Iron Tattoo for my first tattoo and was tattooed by Nathalee. She was very kind and accommodating, even staying after closing hours to complete the tattoo. Overall, great experience, specially for a first time. Will definitely come back in the future! 5/5 – Kai Wong

Their styles are vast, including Watercolor, Japanese, blackwork, line, fine line, trash realism, and anime. So if you’re up for any one of those styles we suggest you look at their portfolio.

Will be back!

Went into the shop as a first time client, 100% leaving as a return/future client. Brian Daka was the artist I was booked with. This wasn’t my first tattoo, and he respected that, and still chose to go above and beyond to make sure I was cool with everything before getting started. Brian was super diligent with cleaning, and disinfecting, and took additional time to make sure I was comfortable before starting.

His lines were beautiful, his personal judgement on size and placement were dead on, and he even did a second tattoo for me with zero questions asked, no pain, super awesome chair side manner, all around best experience compared to previous shops.

The shop is modern, clean, open and organized! Easy process in terms of communication when booking, deposits, waivers, accessibility and overall flow of the business! Will be back 🙂 – Chelsea Shantz

They will make you feel like you’re at home.

Great experience getting my tattoo at this shop!! They hold cleanliness to the highest standard and make sure everything is sanitized. Very accommodating and polite staff. They will make you feel like you’re at home. – Chris Tucci

Tattoos inspired by Polynesian art and tattoos are also widely popular. That’s why if you’re thinking of getting a piece like this that’s custom-made for you, we suggest you check out ROBTATU’s portfolio.

ROBTATU is one of the most sought-after Polynesian Tattoo artists in Canada who specializes in turning your story into an inked art piece. His style is big and bold, just like the tattoos that he does.

His portfolio goes beyond traditional tribal tattoos. While those sleeves are impressive in their own right, we’re also appreciative of the other side of his art style.

ROBTATU also specializes in top-quality realism work with smooth shading. So if you’re looking for a piece that would fit that description, he’s a good candidate for your next tattoo artist.

You can find ROBTATU in Phat Buddha Tattoos. We do have to let you know that while Phat Buddhat takes walk-in clients, we are unsure about this artist as it is not indicated on his website whether or not he’s open to them.

Customer Reviews

I couldn’t have been more pleased with the work, value, and overall experience.

Just had my third tattoo done over the past few years, all by Rob. As with the other two, the quality, i.e., the realism and attention to detail, was just great. The first two he helped me design so that I would have something uniquely meaningful and entirely my own. And, this time, I sent him a pic of a real and unusual medieval artifact. Which he perfectly copied, and then artfully highlighted, making for a third great piece. Thus, once again, I couldn’t have been more pleased with the work, value, and overall experience. – Jonathan

I could not be happier with his work.

Came here for my first big piece, a Polynesian sleeve. I had seen Rob come highly recommended online elsewhere as being one of the top Polynesian artists in Canada and it’s 100% accurate.

I could not be happier with his work – it’s everything I could have hoped for. I was getting regular compliments on the sleeve from strangers while it was still in progress!

Rob himself is a great guy too – fun to chat with and honestly he just puts you at ease. I was definitely looking forward to my monthly sessions because he’s always so welcoming. I’m already planning to return to him for more work. – Lucas Bates

I will definitely be going back here!

Got my very first tattoo today with JJ and it was the best experience! I am very indecisive but he did a great job with helping select which tattoo I want and took his time to help me figure it out. We talked through the whole tattoo, I felt very comfortable and confident that I was in good hands. I am in love with my tattoo and if I ever decide to get more I will definitely be going back here!!Faith Francis

Beginner and veteran-friendly

I recently visited Matchbox at the new location on queen west. The location is extremely clean and has a great atmosphere. Daysha was my tattoo artist, and I highly recommend her. She was great, very kind, and accommodating. She helped me create an amazing tattoo that I am in love with. I cannot wait to finish my sleeve at this location and would recommend this shop to both people experienced with tattoos and for first-timers.” – Michaela Shaw

Services couldn’t have been better!

My experience at Matchbox couldn’t have been better. They were able to book me in for an appointment at short notice, fostered a welcoming environment in their shop, and offered extremely reasonable prices. My artist, Chelsea, was so sweet and friendly. When there was a delay in the start time for me and my friend’s appointments, she took us out to eat, and we all chatted like the best of friends. And when it was time to get down to tattooing, she was fast, clean, and efficient, all while being gentle and checking to make sure we were okay. I love the tattoo I got out of this experience, and I would definitely return in the future!”- Katie Irvine

Amazing skills as artists

Genuinely one of the best tattoo shops you can go in the city. incredible staff, and phenomenal customer service given from Jeremy and his wife. all of them are genuine people who are easy to talk too. the store itself has a family vibe, unlike most tattoo shops that have a distance from artist and customer. this store will work with its customers as long as their is communication between artist and client. the interior is welcoming, and so is the staff, they will gladly communicate with you as you design your tattoo. Strongly recommend to anyone, because of their customer service and their amazing skills as artists.” – Eric Currier

Absolutely love my tattoo

“First tattoo and GREAT experience. The spot is clean and the people are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Took me a long time to be ready and trusting enough to let someone do it. I felt comfortable immediately and absolutely love my tattoo.” – Serena CM

North York Ink is a boutique tattoo studio found in the heart of the district they’re located at.

Their location allows those residing in the area and even passerby’s get quality tattoos and piercings.

What we like about this tattoo studio is the clean and comfortable environment they provide and this makes us feel safe while availing of their services.

Their tattooers constantly push the limits of their creativity and we think their work is fantastic.

Not only is their work amazing, but so is their customer service. We like how they’re ever so patient with their clients when they have questions about the process

This place has turned out to be our go-to and one we’ll come back to for more tattoos.

They also have piercing and scalp micro pigmentation services and they’re just as great as their tattoo service.

Our experience with them has been delightful, but we’ve come across complaints from past clients about, despite their great service and work, it was difficult to book an appointment with them and got slow replies to emails. We hope they work on this.

Save for these types of complaints, we’ve heard nothing but praise for this place!

Pros

  • Located at the heart of the district
  • Clean and comfortable environment
  • Amazing designs and work
  • Excellent customer service

Cons

  • Operating hours unavailable
  • Difficult to book appointment

I’ve had multiple tattoos done by Edgar and could not be happier with them. Edgar is so talented and precise, and makes sure I am happy with the design before tattooing. Will definitely be returning, and would recommend this place to anyone looking to get a tattoo.

“This shop is located in the perfect location! The staff is friendly. The space is super clean and tidy. This is my second time getting work done at this studio and with Abbie. She is so patient and took time to listen to how I wanted my tattoo to look and to draw it out exactly how I wanted it. I felt super comfortable during the session. I also like that there are so many female artists! Definitely a great spot to get your tattoo. Talented artists and great space!”

What should I avoid after getting my tattoo?

It’s advisable NOT to do any of the following activities to avoid any complications with your new tattoo:

How long do tattoos last?

The changes that your body undergoes also change the appearance of tattoos, and yes, they also do fade over time. If you did your tattoos in your youth, say the early 20s, you’ll notice fading at the age of 40 to 50 years old.

But there are other factors that cause tattoos to fade faster than usual. This includes smoking, over-cleansing of the skin, and improper aftercare routine.
